01 - A Closing Ritual
It's our last week in Texas, and between the cleaning and packing there's also plenty of reflection.
Some things happened as planned, others went off-track. Either way, this chapter is coming to a close, and for me, it feels appropriate - and necessary - to do a ritual to honor the time out here, acknowledge the ending, and create a link from here towards the next chapter.
“There’s a trick to the ‘graceful exit.’ It begins with the vision to recognize when a life stage, or a relationship is over–and let it go. It means leaving what’s over without denying its validity or its past importance to our lives. It involves a sense of future, a belief that every exit line is an entry, that we are moving up, rather than out.” – Ellen Goodman
These are the four questions I use for a "closing" ritual:
What are you grateful for? What do you appreciate about what was? What did you love about it?
What have you learned? How have you grown from this experience?
What are you willing to let go? Emotions? Resentments? Reactions? Expectations/hopes un-met?
What seeds would you like to set for the future? What would you like to attract into your life moving forward?
It also happens that the full moon is this coming Thursday, and it's the last full moon of this spring season.
The creative force is nearing its peak, and summer - the season of abundance - is quickly approaching. This is another lens to look at this period: which of the seeds planted earlier in the season is blooming? Which paths became clearer, perhaps by coming across trail markers or signposts, confirming you're headed in the right direction?
This full moon is a time for celebration, a reward for the work done throughout the season. What are you celebrating, and how can you indulge yourself in it on the full moon?
Until next week,

02 - EWG’s Sunscreen Guide
Sunscreens can contain extremely toxic ingredients, and while the FDA is taking its time updating their rules, you can use this guide by EWG (Environmental Working Group) to choose a safer sunscreen.
03 - Homework for Life
Matthew Dicks on TEDxBerkshires
For some weird reason, I’m holding on the pretty much every journal and calendar I've had since I was a teenager…. The only time I actually flip through them is when I’m packing before a move, but then I get pulled into this past world and time seems to stand still. Matthew’s advice/approach/system seems more reasonable to keep track of specific memories and stories, and I’ve started this “story log” last week after hearing it - and I gotta say, I love it as a daily practice.
